Abramoff pal and Colorado senatorial candidate Bob Schaffer(R) was forced to admit today his involvement in an oil deal in Iraq that was “counterproductive to American interests in the region”. Recap here…http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/07/17/gop-senate-candidate-fess_n_113431.html.
Bob Schaffer chose to put the economic interests of Aspect Energy ahead of our American security interests in Iraq. And now he wants to serve in the senate? Mark Udall is a better man for the job…http://www.markudall.com/.

Bottom photo caption is not a quote of the man pictured.

Actually, the top photo is not “photo-shopped”. The picture was taken on a junket to the Mariana Islands attended by then-congressman Bob Schaffer. The trip was paid for by Washington lobbyists. I don’t even know how to “photo-shop” images.
Obviously, the second photo caption is not a quote of the man pictured. I highly doubt that there is a politician in America who would say such a thing. Swinehart’s detective skills are on full display in his comments. Clearly, there is no fooling this bloodhound. With instincts like his, perhaps he should be chasing down terr’ists.
Swinehart- deciding to state the obvious.

If you knew anything about Iraq (which you do not) you would know that Aspect Energy’s exploration contract in Kurdistan is an outgrowth of the US-brokered Iraqi Constitution which was voted for by over 70% of Iraqis. It is also consistent with the Biden Plan which was supported by over 70% of US Senators. The simple idea behind both of these documents is that peace in Iraq (and the withdrawal of US troops) will come with regional autonomy in a Federal government. I guess Udall wants the Shiite-dominated Baghdad government to run the most important new source of oil in the world instead of the democratic, pro-American Government of Kurdistan. Dumb idea.
The oil that Iraq and Kurdistan could produce would bring oil prices down by more than any other factor. And thereby weaken Putin, Ahmajinedad and any number of other dictators.

Cranny,
Thank you for stopping by and proclaiming that I do not know anything about Iraq. Way to come out swinging, chief. I like it.
Please explain to me why the U.S. State Dept termed one of your firm’s contracts “problematic for Iraq”. What’s the “problem”, in your esteemed opinion? Please educate the readers of my blog for the good of the (r)epuke party. Teach us, Alex.
PEACE
